2nd INENS North America Nuclear Policy Dialogue

6-7 April 2013

INENS hosted the second two-day North America Nuclear Policy Dialogue in Washington, D.C. back to back with the Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference. The event was attended by over 60 emerging specialists and established experts, and constituted of a mix of participants from the policy, science and industry communities. 

 

Over the course of the two days, participants discussed issues relating to: arms control and disarmament; nuclear safety; nuclear security; IAEA safeguards; regional issues in South Asia and North East Asia; the NPT; the CTBT, and the FMCT.

Africa in the Global Nuclear Regime - INENS-ISS Conference

 

5-9 December 2011

 

Pretoria, South Africa

 

INENS hosted a five-day conference for nuclear specialists based in Africa to discuss issues relating to the region. The event was attended by over 40 participants from 15 countries in the region, and included government, academia, think tanks, scientific bodies, and regional organisations. Participation also included the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, the IAEA and the CTBTO PrepCom. This event was hosted jointly with the Institute for Security Studies (South Africa) with funds from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Over the course of the five days, participants discussed issues relating to: regulatory frameworks, the expansion of nuclear power in the region; scientific applications – water, agriculture, cancer therapy and human health; capacity building and training; nuclear security; disarmament; the Treaty of Pelindaba; and Africa’s role in the broader multilateral nuclear regime.

1st Nuclear Policy Dialogue Conference

INENS hosted its first two-day conference at the Elliott School of International Affairs back to back with the Carnegie Endowment’s Nuclear Policy Conference. The event was attended by approximately 70 emerging specialists and established experts over the course of the conference, and included participants from international organisations, government, industry, national laboratories, academia, think tanks, and media.

 

During the two days, participants discussed issues relating to: nuclear security; the Fissile Material Cut-Off Treaty and the Conference on Disarmament; arms control; regional issues in South Asia, and the Middle East; and the NPT.
